A low-pressure system may form over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas early in the month of Ashwin, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk said the system could gradually intensify into a depression and potentially develop into a cyclone.

“The low-pressure system may form within two days. It could later intensify into a depression and may even develop into a cyclone,” he told Sara Bangla on Friday.

“However, it is more likely to move towards Odisha. Its impact could increase rainfall in Bangladesh after September 23,” he said.

Fog has been reported in different parts of the country over the past two days. Faruk said the temporary fog was caused by recent spells of rain and was likely to clear within the next one or two days.

According to the Meteorological Department’s Friday morning bulletin, the axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and central Bangladesh to Assam, with another extension reaching the North Bay of Bengal.

The monsoon remains less active over Bangladesh and weak over the North Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at some places in Rangpur and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions during the 24 hours from 9am Friday.

Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across the country during this period. Rainfall or thundershowers may increase over the next five days.
