Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President and former minister Col (retd) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram has claimed that BNP activists are increasingly worried because extortion and terrorism will be stopped in the country.

“This government is not a BNP government; it is Hasina’s government,” he said, adding that the 11-party alliance is holding the long march to put the country on the right track.

Oli made the remarks at the opening rally of the 11-party alliance’s Dhaka-Rangpur long march at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Saturday morning.

He said, “There is an atmosphere of mourning in the homes of BNP activists today because extortion, terrorism and muscle power will come to an end.”

Referring to former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Oli recounted an anecdote about his mother allegedly worrying that the family would lose its luxurious lifestyle if he lost power.

“BNP is facing the same situation after losing power,” Oli said. “Extortion will stop, terrorism will stop and muscle power will stop. The government led by Tarique is not a BNP government; it is Hasina’s government. Tarique must also be cautious, and so must the people.”

Oli said the long march was being held not out of a desire for power or personal gain, but to bring the country back on the right track.

“Stay united and do not go astray,” he said. “Do not pay attention to what anyone writes on Facebook or what any so-called traitor or agent of India says. Do whatever is necessary to achieve your goal with conviction.”
