A nearly 16-foot-long python was rescued under a bed at a house in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, late Friday night.
The snake was later handed over to the local forest department.
Swapan Deb Sajal, director of the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation in Sreemangal, said the python was rescued from the house of the late Harun Mia, owner of Mitali Decorators, in Ichhpur area around 12:15am.
The family was preparing to go to bed when one of them heard a hissing sound coming from under the bed. When they used a mobile phone flashlight, they spotted the huge python, triggering panic among the family members.
After local physician Prolad Babu informed the foundation, Sajal and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Dip rushed to the house despite the late hour and safely rescued the snake.
The python was about 16 feet long and weighed around 26kg, according to those involved in the rescue.
It was later handed over to the Sreemangal Forest Department’s range office.
The foundation said snakes have recently been entering residential areas in different parts of Sreemangal, causing concern among residents.
It urged people not to kill snakes if they are found and instead contact wildlife rescuers so the animals can be safely rescued and released.
