The central committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has expelled eight leaders and activists of the organisation’s Jagannath University unit for allegedly violating organisational discipline.

The decision was announced in separate notices signed by central office secretary Mohammad Jahangir Alam on Sunday, September 20, according to a report by Jago News24.

Those expelled are JnU Chhatra Dal Joint Convener Sabuj Shahriar, members Mohammad Israfil Islam Rafil, Masum Reza, Yasin Saif, Imran Hossain Emon, Moniruzzaman Monir and Mohammad Souravur Rahman Sujon, and student leader Kabya Saha. Kabya was expelled from the organisation’s primary membership, while the others were removed from their organisational posts.

In a separate notice, another joint convener of the JnU unit, Nahian Bin Anik, was asked to explain within 24 hours why permanent organisational disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

He was instructed to submit a written explanation at the central office in the presence of the organisation’s president and general secretary.

The action came after clashes and chases between two groups of JnU Chhatra Dal earlier on Sunday, reportedly stemming from internal disputes.

The groups were led by unit Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin and Joint Convener Nahian Bin Anik, respectively.

JnU Chhatra Dal Convener Mehedi Hasan Himel said the organisation had taken action against those involved in disorder on campus and would continue to do so in the future.
