A total of 515 people were arrested in Dhaka during a 24-hour operation by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), while 47 cases were filed in connection with various incidents.
The DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division disclosed the information in a press release on Saturday.
Of those arrested, 30 were from Ramna division, 34 from Lalbagh, 64 from Wari, 76 from Motijheel, 92 from Tejgaon, 120 from Mirpur, 37 from Gulshan, 46 from Uttara and 16 from the Detective Branch.
During the operation, police recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines, 10 rounds of ammunition, three machetes, five knives, remnants of exploded cocktails, 53 pieces of iron nails (barbed wire), 94.35kg of cannabis, 11,167 yaba tablets, 121.3g of heroin, three bottles of foreign liquor, 20 cans of beer, a private car, five mobile phones and Tk7,200 in cash.
The DMP said the arrests were made during raids in different police station areas of the capital. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway.
