A fire broke out at a ready-made garment factory in Ashulia’s Jamgora area of Savar on Sunday evening following an explosion.
The incident occurred at around 6:50pm at a factory of Preeti Group, according to fire service officials.
Initial reports said the fire may have originated from a boiler or a gas-cylinder explosion, although the exact cause had not been confirmed.
Fire Service and Civil Defence initially dispatched two units to the scene, while later reports said four units were involved in efforts to bring the blaze under control.
Traffic congestion on the Baipayl road reportedly delayed the firefighters’ arrival.
Reports on casualties varied as the firefighting operation was still under way. One later report said several people were injured, with some suffering serious burns, while other reports said casualties had not yet been confirmed.
Fire officials said the situation and extent of damage would be assessed after reaching and inspecting the affected area.
