Iran has vowed a forceful response following a series of US airstrikes in southern regions, including Sirik, that reportedly caused multiple casualties and injuries.
In a strongly worded statement, Iran’s military accused Washington of breaching a prior memorandum of understanding (MoU), calling the attacks “a clear sign of the United States’ lack of commitment.”
“The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will deliver a crushing response to this act of aggression and terrorism,” the statement said, warning that foreign interference in the Strait of Hormuz would not be tolerated.
Tehran also reaffirmed its control over the strategic waterway, declaring that only routes designated by Iran can ensure safe passage for commercial vessels and oil tankers.
The escalation follows reports of coordinated US strikes across at least three locations in southern Iran.
Six explosions were reported on Qeshm Island, the largest island near the Strait of Hormuz.
Additional strikes targeted the port city of Sirik, overlooking the vital maritime corridor, where between seven and nine impacts were recorded. Several injured individuals were transported to a hospital in Minab for treatment.
In Bandar Abbas, witnesses reported at least 10 explosions, with multiple wharfs struck along with a telecommunications tower.
The developments mark a sharp rise in tensions in the region, raising concerns over the security of one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
