President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stressed the need to prioritise technology, engineering and technical education to equip young people with skills suited to job opportunities at home and abroad.
He made the remarks when a delegation led by Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) Vice-Chancellor Prof Abul Hasnat Md Shamim paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban on Tuesday.
President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam briefed reporters about the meeting.
“The quality of education must be improved in line with the rapidly changing world, and students of the country must move forward,” the President said.
He said the country needed to gradually move away from an education system that produces unemployment rather than preparing students for the job market.
“Our country must gradually get rid of the education system that creates unemployment and does not provide students for employment,” he said.
During the meeting, the PUST vice-chancellor briefed the President on the university’s overall activities and formally invited him to attend its upcoming convocation as Chancellor.
The President accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the convocation.
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, along with PUST Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer, were present at the meeting.
