A Sri Lankan High Court on Tuesday convicted 15 people over their involvement in the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, more than seven years after the deadly attacks.
The three-member Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar found 15 of the 24 accused guilty, while the remaining nine were acquitted.
The accused faced 23,270 charges, including murder, conspiracy and offences involving terrorism, firearms and explosives.
The coordinated suicide bombings on April 21, 2019, targeted churches and hotels across Sri Lanka, killing at least 269 people and injuring more than 500 others.
The attacks were among the deadliest in the country’s recent history.
Prosecutors alleged that Naufer Moulavi was among those who helped organise the attacks.
The court considered thousands of pieces of evidence and testimony from more than 2,300 prosecution witnesses during the lengthy proceedings.
The verdict is a major development in the long-running case, although separate investigations into alleged intelligence failures and other possible involvement in the attacks are continuing.
Former intelligence chief Suresh Sallay, who denies allegations against him, is also under investigation.
