Iran has given the United States five days to accept its conditions for reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, warning that the waterway will remain closed if Washington refuses to comply.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Iran had presented its conditions to the United States during a United Nations meeting. He said the Strait would not be reopened unless Washington accepted the terms, adding that Iran would not hold talks with the US until then.
Rezaei described the Strait of Hormuz as a “guarantee” in the negotiations and said the United States must rebuild trust with Iran before any talks could resume.
He also said Iran would not return to its previous diplomatic position or accept the earlier terms of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
“Our position remains unchanged. The new diplomatic path we have chosen will move forward with full force,” Rezaei said in a statement.
He further warned neighbouring countries that have assisted the United States in restricting Iranian air traffic, saying measures would be taken against their airports if they continued to deny Iranian aircraft access. Source: Sama TV.
