The Home Ministry has decided to form committees at all educational institutions across Bangladesh to prevent drug use and gambling among students, according to a ministry press release issued Thursday.
The release, signed by Home Ministry Public Relations Officer (Director) Foysal Hasan, said the move aims to strengthen efforts to combat drugs and gambling in educational institutions.
However, the ministry did not disclose details about the proposed committees, including their composition, membership, responsibilities or scope of activities.
The decision followed a recommendation by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs, which identified drug use and gambling as major concerns and called for effective measures to curb them.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the parliamentary committee chaired by its Chairman Zainul Abedin at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
