DHAKA: The Education Ministry has directed all educational institutions across Bangladesh to install rooftop solar power systems on suitable premises as part of efforts to achieve the government’s target for on-grid solar power generation.
The directive was issued in an order by the Secondary and Higher Education Division on September 23.
According to the order, the Power Division has set a target for on-grid solar power generation in line with a Cabinet Division circular aimed at increasing the use of solar energy in government offices.
To implement the target, educational institutions have been instructed to install rooftop solar systems through private investment under an OPEX model or using their own funds.
The ministry said major government offices, including Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division, have already been instructed to maximize the use of solar power.
The ministry added that the use of solar energy should be gradually expanded to other government offices and educational institutions across the country.
