The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has given India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar 48 hours to resign, warning that it will launch nationwide protests if he fails to step down.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke issued the ultimatum at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday, September 24.
He said the party would begin a nationwide agitation and later organise a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar if Kumar did not resign within the deadline.
The demand comes amid controversy over the Election Commission’s functioning and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The CJP has accused the Election Commission of undermining voters’ rights, while the allegations remain claims by the party.
The CJP has also called for upcoming state Assembly elections to be put on hold and demanded changes to the SIR process.
Meanwhile, opposition parties are reportedly preparing another parliamentary motion seeking Kumar’s removal from office.
The move follows reports of differences among members of the Election Commission over several decisions related to electoral rolls and voter registration.
