Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday.
The meeting was held after noon on the 27th floor of the Secretariat Building, according to the prime minister’s assistant press secretary KM Nazmul Haque.
At the outset, Tarique Rahman and Guterres exchanged greetings before discussing Bangladesh-UN cooperation, key global and regional issues and matters of mutual interest.
They also discussed Bangladesh’s development progress, the impacts of climate change, a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis and Bangladesh’s continued contribution to UN peace, security and development efforts, Nazmul said.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of UN support and cooperation on Bangladesh’s priorities and issues of national interest. He also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, peace and sustainable development.
In response, Guterres stressed the importance of further strengthening the long-standing cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations.
Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining mutual cooperation and working closely to address common global challenges.
