Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a bilateral meeting with Kuwait’s Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.
The meeting was held at the Permanent Mission of Kuwait to the United Nations, where the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Kuwait.
Tarique recalled the longstanding ties between the two countries and highlighted what he described as the historic contributions of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia to the development of bilateral relations and expansion of cooperation.
He said the foundation of mutual respect, goodwill and cooperation established between Bangladesh and Kuwait during their tenure had expanded over the years.
The prime minister stressed the need to further deepen and broaden the historic relationship for the mutual benefit of the two countries’ peoples.
The two leaders discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including increasing the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait, expanding trade and investment, and strengthening economic cooperation.
They also exchanged views on various regional and international issues and stressed the importance of maintaining regular communication, cooperation and coordination on matters of mutual interest.
Tarique emphasised the importance of increasing high-level political contacts between the two countries and expanding cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, investment, manpower and other potential sectors.
The two leaders expressed their commitment to further strengthening existing cooperation for the mutual benefit of the peoples of Bangladesh and Kuwait.
