Four members of the same family, including a father and his three children, remained missing on Friday after a passenger trawler sank in the Meghna River in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon near Sonamayi in the Baidyerbazar area as the passengers were travelling from Homna in Cumilla to attend a relative’s wedding in Sonargaon, according to reports.
The missing people were identified as Helal Uddin, 55, his son Sajib Hossain, 24, son Samin Hossain, 5, and daughter Samia Akter, 17.
The trawler was carrying 14 passengers when it sank amid strong winds.
Nine people were rescued alive, while the body of a woman, Raisha Begum, was recovered.
Fire Service, the Coast Guard, naval police and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) launched a joint search operation.
The sunken trawler was located, but the four missing passengers had not been found as of Friday night.
Strong currents in the river were hampering the rescue operation, officials said.
The passengers were reportedly travelling with two cows and a goat for the wedding ceremony.
