Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin has said the agreement to purchase Boeing aircraft was signed with Bangladesh’s interests in mind.
“The prime minister’s visit was extremely important and successful. The agreement to purchase Boeing aircraft from the United States was reached while safeguarding bilateral interests,” Amin told reporters after arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday morning.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an agreement with Boeing during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to New York to purchase 11 additional aircraft as part of plans to expand the national carrier’s fleet and open new international routes.
Asked about attacks at several locations in Dhaka, including the studio of popular content creator Salman Muqtadir, Amin said the government would take firm action against anyone violating the law or attempting to create instability.
“No one will be spared for committing wrongdoing in the name of the government or the party. The law will take its own course,” he said.
The Brownfish Studio of Salman Muqtadir was vandalised and looted in the ECB Chattar area early Sunday following an alleged extortion dispute. Police detained two people in connection with the incident.
Amin said the prime minister had strongly presented Bangladesh’s position at the United Nations and was warmly received by world leaders.
Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli said Tarique Rahman did not prefer large crowds of party activists at the airport, describing it as a change in political culture.
Members of the prime minister’s press wing said Tarique highlighted Bangladesh’s interests and potential during his five-day visit and presented his plans for people from all sections of society in his UNGA address.
Tarique returned home at 8:21am on Sunday after attending the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and other members of the delegation accompanied him. Government representatives, including the speaker of parliament, chief whip and local government minister, welcomed him at the airport.
