The Education Ministry has instructed all educational institutions across Bangladesh to install rooftop solar power systems on suitable premises to help achieve the government’s target for on-grid solar power generation.
The directive was issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division in an order sent to the relevant authorities on September 23, according to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The order said the Power Division had set a target for on-grid solar power generation in line with a Cabinet Division circular aimed at ensuring greater use of solar power in government offices.
To help achieve the target, all educational institutions have been instructed to install rooftop solar systems on suitable buildings and other facilities on their premises, either through private investment under an OPEX model or with their own funds.
The ministry said the government has already directed key state institutions, including Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division, to maximise the use of solar power.
As part of the same initiative, the government will gradually seek to ensure the maximum possible use of solar power in other government offices and educational institutions, the order said.
