The officer-in-charge (OC) of Shah Ali Police Station, Jahangir Alam, has been withdrawn two days after an attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, Dhaka.
An office order signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said Alam had been withdrawn from his post and attached to the Central Reserve Office for “administrative reasons”.
The order did not provide any further explanation for the decision.
Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Nasher Rikabdar confirmed the withdrawal, saying Jahangir Alam handed over charge on Saturday night.
Shah Ali Police Station is located about one kilometre from the site of the attack. Allegations have emerged that the health centre was vandalised despite the presence of police nearby.
DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said on Saturday that an investigation was underway to determine whether police reached the scene in time after receiving information about the incident and whether there had been any negligence or failure of duty.
The Radda MCH-FP Centre was attacked, vandalised and looted by a group of masked men on Friday night.
