The Bangladesh Police’s Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has been renamed the Special Response Unit (SRU) as part of a change to the force’s organisational structure.

The Home Ministry’s Police-3 branch recently approved the name change through a government order. According to the order, the new name will take effect from the date the Finance Division endorses the government order.

The order, signed by Home Ministry Deputy Secretary Tanvir-Al-Nasif, said the renaming would not involve any changes to the number of approved posts in the Bangladesh Police’s organisational structure.

It also directed the authorities to comply with the conditions imposed by the Public Administration Ministry and ensure adherence to all relevant rules and regulations.

The government order referred to related memorandums issued by the Public Administration Ministry on August 20, the Finance Division’s Expenditure Management Branch on August 31, and the Cabinet Division’s Administrative Development and Coordination-1 Branch on September 2.

The order was issued with the approval of the competent authority.
