A new poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research has found that 71% of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s handling of Iran, amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
According to the survey, 69% of respondents said the war with Iran was not worth fighting, reflecting widespread public dissatisfaction with the administration’s approach to the conflict.
The findings come as the United States approaches its November 3 midterm elections, with the Iran war and its economic impact emerging as major issues in domestic politics.
The poll also found growing concern over the cost of living. About 65% of Americans blamed Trump’s policies for higher-than-usual prices, while only 17% approved of his handling of the cost of living and 26% approved of his overall handling of the economy.
Public opposition to the Iran conflict has also appeared in other recent surveys.
A Fox News poll conducted in September found that 60% of registered voters considered US military action against Iran the wrong decision, while 37% said it was the right decision.
The AP-NORC findings were released on October 1, 2026, as debate continues in Washington over the scope of presidential authority and the future of US military involvement in Iran.
