A new cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchased from Singapore’s BP through the spot market has arrived in Bangladesh, with unloading operations beginning at Excelerate Energy’s floating LNG terminal in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.

The LNG carrier Wen Cheng was first connected to the terminal at 8:54am on Friday (October 2), after which the transfer of LNG from the vessel to the floating terminal began.

Bangladesh imported several LNG cargoes from different sources in September. These included cargoes purchased from Gunvor in the United States, TotalEnergies via Indonesia and Aramco Singapore via Australia through the spot market.

According to Petrobangla, a total of 19 LNG cargoes have been secured for October and November.

Of these, 10 are scheduled to arrive in October and nine in November. The cargoes have been sourced from countries including the United States, Nigeria and Angola.

The latest cargo will help maintain LNG supplies to the national gas grid amid continued reliance on imported gas to meet domestic demand.
