State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has said relief supplies will be delivered door-to-door to people affected by continuous heavy rainfall, waterlogging and landslides.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (July 8) while visiting waterlogged and landslide-prone areas in Chattogram and distributing relief among affected residents.
The state minister said the government is standing by the affected people in line with the chief adviser’s directives. No affected family in Chattogram will be deprived of assistance, and essential relief supplies will be delivered to their homes.
He said he had earlier met the chief adviser in Dhaka to discuss the overall situation in Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts. Following the meeting, he travelled to Chattogram despite the adverse weather to inspect the affected areas and begin relief distribution.
As part of his visit, he toured several areas in Hathazari upazila as well as South Pahartali, Jalalabad and Banglabazar Bank Colony in Bayezid of Chattogram city. He also inspected locations where cracks had appeared on hillsides and urged residents living in high-risk areas to move to safer shelters.
The state minister said several days of continuous rainfall had disrupted normal life in Chattogram and the hill districts. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the local administration, law enforcement agencies, elected representatives, political leaders and volunteers to tackle the disaster.
Local administration officials, political leaders and residents of the affected areas were present during the relief distribution.
