Pakistan dengue cases surge across K-P

Dengue cases in Pakistan have begun rising sharply across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with the change in weather. District Kohat has been declared a high-risk area after the number of dengue cases there climbed to 1,347.

According to a report issued by the Health Department, as many as 878 dengue cases were reported in Kohat alone during September. Across the province, 8,905 dengue-affected cases have been reported so far this year, of which 2,175 have been laboratory-confirmed.

In the past 24 hours, nearly 100 new dengue cases surfaced in the province. The current number of active cases stands at 112. The departmental report notes that September saw the highest number of cases, with Kohat topping the list and an outbreak also recorded there.

In Khyber district, 99 cases were reported in September, taking the cumulative total to 101. Peshawar recorded 116 cases in the same month, pushing its overall figure to 329. Bannu reported 55 cases, raising its total to 106, while three new cases in Haripur brought the district’s count to 37.

Health authorities confirmed that no dengue-related deaths have been reported in the province to date. Source: Express Tribune.
