170 held in anti-teen gang drive in Noakhali

Police have detained 170 people in a special drive against teen gangs across Noakhali, with 152 later released into the custody of their guardians after signing bonds.

The drive was conducted from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning across the district.

According to police, four people were detained in Sudharam Model police station area, 17 in Companyganj, 32 in Begumganj, three in Senbagh, 32 in Char Jabbar, 18 in Sonaimuri, 49 in Hatiya, six in Chatkhil and nine in Kabirhat.

Police found specific allegations of criminal involvement against 18 of those detained. They were shown arrested in related cases and sent to court.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Abu Tayeb Md Arif Hossain said the special drive was launched on the instructions of the district police superintendent to maintain law and order and curb juvenile crime.

Superintendent of Police NM Nasiruddin said such drives would continue to prevent the activities of teen gangs. The district police will also conduct public awareness campaigns and social prevention programmes, he added.
