A member of the Special Response Battalion (SRB) was killed after being run over by a truck while conducting a search at a checkpoint on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Alamgir, 46, a warrant officer (DAD) of SRB-7 Feni camp. The truck driver, Mohammad Sajib, 45, was also injured in the accident.

The accident occurred around 12:30am in the Fatehpur area of Feni Sadar upazila, in front of a Star Line fuel station.

According to SRB Feni camp officials, a team had set up the checkpoint based on information about a possible drug shipment and launched an operation around 12:30am.

At one point, a speeding truck failed to slow down at the checkpoint and rammed a covered van. It then lost control, ran over Alamgir, who was standing beside the road, and fell into a ditch.

Alamgir and the truck driver were critically injured and taken to Feni 250-bed General Hospital, where doctors declared Alamgir dead. Sajib is receiving treatment at the hospital.

SRB-7 Assistant Director (Media) and Assistant Superintendent of Police Mosleh Uddin Ahmed confirmed Alamgir’s death and said the truck and covered van had been seized.

He added that Alamgir’s body was handed over to the SRB battalion on Sunday afternoon after an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway.
