A total of 1,471 candidates recommended for appointment as assistant teachers at government primary schools have not joined their posts or completed the appointment process, according to the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE).
Of them, 918 candidates received appointment letters but failed to join within the stipulated time, while another 553 did not receive appointment letters after failing to submit the required documents.
The DPE disclosed the information on Tuesday.
The government had issued a recruitment circular for 14,385 vacant assistant-teacher posts, attracting 1,080,080 applications.
Following the issuance of district-wise appointment orders on September 24, the recommended candidates were instructed to submit the required documents. A total of 13,831 candidates submitted their documents.
Of the remaining 553 candidates, one had died, while 552 failed to submit the required documents.
According to the DPE, appointment letters were issued to 13,748 of the 13,831 candidates who submitted the required documents. Of them, 12,830 joined their posts within the stipulated period.
As a result, 918 candidates who received appointment letters did not join their assigned posts on time.
Including the 552 candidates who failed to submit the required documents and the one candidate who died, a total of 1,471 recommended candidates did not join the primary teaching service or complete the appointment process.
