7 October 2026 15:04 Updated: 7 October 2026 15:04

The government has cancelled the weekly holiday on October 17 and declared it a working day to facilitate a five-day holiday for Durga Puja.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday, October 7, government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices will remain open on Saturday, October 17.

The decision comes as the government has rescheduled the Durga Puja holidays. Offices will remain closed from October 20 to 22, while October 23 and 24 are Friday and Saturday, the regular weekly holidays. As a result, employees will enjoy a five-day break from October 20 to 24.

The government had earlier declared October 20 as a holiday for Navami and October 21 for Bijoya Dashami. October 22 has now been added as an additional holiday.

Emergency services, including electricity, water, gas and other fuel services, fire service, port operations, sanitation, telephone and internet services, postal services, hospitals and emergency healthcare, will remain operational during the holidays.
