DHAKA: A Bangladeshi man, Mohammad Jasim Uddin, 38, has died aboard a flight while returning home from Mozambique. The incident occurred on Qatar Airways flight QR1376 from Maputo to Doha on Friday (October 9).

Jasim’s elder brother, Mohammad Yusuf, said Jasim departed from Maputo International Airport, the capital of Mozambique, at around 2pm local time on Friday for Bangladesh. After a stopover in Doha, he was scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:40am on Saturday (October 10). However, he died before the flight reached Doha.

Mohib Ullah, a resident of the same area who was seated beside Jasim on the flight, also confirmed the incident.

Yusuf said Jasim had been suffering from heart disease. He suffered a cardiac episode while in Bangladesh last year and underwent a procedure to have a stent placed in his heart. After receiving treatment and recovering, he returned to Mozambique in April this year. Following around six months of business there, he set off for home again, but never made it back to his family.

Jasim was the third son of Syed Mia of Bandubor Bari in Ward No. 7 of the Chhararkul area in Purba Chambal, Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram. He was the sixth of eight siblings, with four brothers and four sisters. His parents, wife and two children live in Bangladesh.

Jasim moved to Mozambique in 2016, where he and his three brothers were involved in business. One of his brothers, Mohammad Idris, died of Covid-19 on August 7, 2021. His elder brother, Mohammad Yunus, and younger brother, Ferdous Uddin, currently live in Mulombo Kurumana in Mozambique’s Zambezia province.
