A temporary bus terminal has been inaugurated in the Jhil Mil residential project area at Chunkutia to help ease traffic congestion in Dhaka by relocating buses serving 19 districts in the southern part of the country.

The terminal was inaugurated at 9:30am on Monday, October 12.

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) Chairman Md Riazul Islam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman and other senior officials attended the inauguration.

The initiative was taken in line with decisions made at meetings on reducing traffic congestion and modernising traffic management in the capital.

The issue was discussed at meetings chaired by the prime minister on March 24, May 14, June 15 and August 29.

Under the plan, bus services to the 19 southern districts are expected to begin operating from the temporary terminal within the next two months.

The move is expected to reduce the pressure caused by long-distance buses entering and travelling through Dhaka, while improving traffic discipline and easing congestion on city roads.

The DMP stressed the importance of coordinated efforts by relevant agencies to modernise traffic management and ensure safer, smoother travel for commuters. It said such joint initiatives would continue in the public interest.
