Bangladesh has declined to comment on ongoing opposition protests in New Delhi, describing the situation as an internal matter of India.

Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam made the remarks on Monday while responding to questions from journalists after a seminar titled “Bangladesh’s Foreign Policy: Navigating a Changing World” organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in Dhaka.

Asked about the ongoing situation in India and alleged attempts to push people into Bangladesh through border areas, she said Dhaka had no assessment to offer at this stage.

“Bangladesh has no assessment on this at the moment. It is an internal matter of India, and the Indian government will deal with it,” she said.

The remarks came amid opposition protests in New Delhi demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protests were called by opposition groups and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a youth-led political movement, according to reports.
