Dhaka: A temporary bus terminal has been opened in the Jhilmil Residential Project area of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) in Chunkutia, in an effort to reduce traffic congestion in the capital and improve road discipline and passenger safety.
The terminal was inaugurated at 9:30am, Md Akhtar Hossain, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Media and Public Relations Wing, said.
RAJUK Chairman Md Riazul Islam and DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, among others, attended the inauguration.
Under the plan, bus services to 19 districts in southern Bangladesh are expected to begin operating from the temporary terminal within the next two months.
The initiative aims to reduce the entry and movement of long-distance buses within Dhaka, easing pressure on the capital’s busy roads and helping improve traffic management.
The DMP has stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among relevant agencies to address congestion and modernise traffic management across the capital.
Such joint initiatives will continue to promote orderly traffic movement and ensure safer and smoother journeys for passengers, the police said.
