Twelve former advisers have condemned the alleged harassment of Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus at New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport, according to a report by Manab Zamin.
Yunus, who served as chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, was reportedly confronted by a group of protesters at the airport.
A video circulating on social media shows several people shouting slogans and making accusations against him as he was being escorted in a wheelchair by security personnel and associates.
The incident has drawn criticism in Bangladesh, with the government condemning the alleged harassment and instructing the Bangladesh mission in New York to coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to identify those involved and pursue appropriate legal action.
The former advisers reportedly denounced the incident as inappropriate treatment of a former head of government and an internationally recognised figure.
The identities of those involved in the airport confrontation have not been independently confirmed.
