Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged citizens to keep their homes and surroundings clean and take collective action to prevent the spread of dengue, as the mosquito-borne disease continues to pose a serious public health threat.
In a video message, the prime minister called for greater public participation in eliminating breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue.
The appeal came as the government intensified efforts to contain infections across the country.
The prime minister has also directed the authorities concerned to conduct public awareness campaigns through loudspeaker announcements in neighbourhoods and disseminate dengue prevention messages during Friday prayers.
At a meeting on dengue prevention and control at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, he warned that the coming months would be crucial in controlling the outbreak.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by government agencies and stronger preventive measures in areas reporting higher infection rates.
The meeting also emphasised maintaining cleanliness at government residential quarters and hospital premises, alongside closer coordination among ministries, divisions and relevant agencies.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, dengue had claimed 316 lives and caused 103,396 hospital admissions across Bangladesh by October 13 this year.
The government is also considering options for dengue vaccine trials or evaluating existing research, while health authorities are working to improve early diagnosis and treatment.
Authorities have urged people experiencing fever to seek prompt medical attention and avoid delaying treatment.
