Spain and Belgium will face off tonight in one of the most eagerly awaited quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup, with both European powerhouses seeking a place in the last four.
The contest has been widely tipped as a potential early final after both teams produced convincing performances in the Round of 16. Spain advanced by eliminating Portugal, while Belgium overwhelmed the United States 4-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Coach Luis de la Fuente believes maintaining concentration throughout the match will be crucial against an experienced Belgian side.
“Belgium are a very experienced and talented team. A moment of carelessness can be dangerous, but we are confident in our football. Our objective is to control the match and make the most of our chances,” he told reporters ahead of the game. The Spanish coach said knockout matches are often decided by the smallest details.
“Small mistakes make the difference, so we need to keep our players focused,” he added.
Belgium coach Rudi Garcia also expressed confidence despite acknowledging Spain’s quality.
“Spain are one of the favourites, but we are not afraid of anyone. We will step onto the pitch determined to reach the semi-finals. It’s not enough to play well; we must also have a winning mentality,” Garcia said.
Rejecting suggestions that reaching the quarter-finals already represented success, he added: “We want to go much further.”
Spain will once again rely on the midfield trio of Rodri, Pedri and Fabián Ruiz to control possession and dictate the tempo, while teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams are expected to provide pace and creativity on the flanks. Captain Álvaro Morata is set to spearhead the attack.
Belgium, meanwhile, will look to captain Kevin De Bruyne to orchestrate play, with experienced goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois providing stability at the back. Wingers Jérémy Doku and Leandro Trossard are expected to play key roles on the counterattack.
Football analysts believe the midfield battle could determine the outcome. Spain are likely to dominate possession, while Belgium will seek to exploit spaces through quick transitions and counter-attacks.
Spain have been among the tournament’s most solid defensive teams, conceding very few clear-cut chances, whereas Belgium have shown clinical finishing in the knockout stage.
