Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Choudhury has been handed a one-match suspension following his red card in Sheffield United’s 3-2 defeat to Portsmouth in the English Football League (EFL) Championship.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the first half of the match at Fratton Park.

He was booked in the 33rd minute for a foul on Portsmouth forward Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and received a second yellow card in the 44th minute following another challenge involving the same player.

Under EFL rules, a player sent off after receiving two yellow cards is generally suspended for one match.

As a result, Hamza will miss Sheffield United’s next Championship fixture against Bristol City.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder expressed frustration over the decision, questioning the circumstances surrounding the second booking after his side’s defeat.

Sheffield United remain 15th in the Championship table with 12 points from 10 matches.
