ssTwo passengers were killed when a passenger-carrying auto-rickshaw collided with a covered van in Panchdona, Narsingdi, on Friday morning.
The accident occurred around 9am in front of Bhatpara Bazar on the Panchdona-Tongi road, said Sub-Inspector Mohammad Jasim of Madhabdi Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Saidul Islam, 22, son of Khorshed Alam of Antrampur in Char Dighaldi union of Narsingdi Sadar upazila, and Nur Uddin, son of Haris Molla of Matail Dakshin Para in Ashulia.
According to police and witnesses, the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Gazipur to Narsingdi when it collided with an oncoming covered van while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
Nur Uddin died on the spot, while Saidul succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Police recovered Nur Uddin’s body and took the auto-rickshaw driver into custody.
SI Jasim said further legal action would be taken after discussions with the victims’ families.
