DHAKA: The US Embassy in Dhaka has warned that overstaying the authorised period of stay in the United States could result in a permanent ban on future entry and even criminal prosecution.

In a special warning issued on Saturday (October 17), the embassy cautioned travellers against violating the terms of their authorised stay in the country.

The warning said that anyone who remains in the United States beyond their authorised period could face a permanent ban on future travel to the country, as well as criminal charges.

It also noted that consular officers have access to applicants’ immigration records and can identify past violations of immigration laws or regulations.

“Unintentional mistakes” would not be accepted as an excuse for such violations, the warning added.
