Police recovered the hanging body of a 38-year-old BRAC official from a rented room in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur on Saturday morning.

The deceased, Olive Biswas, was found at around 8:30am on October 17 in the Moyendia Bazar area.

Olive was the son of Milan Biswas of Sonadanga village in Shalikha upazila of Magura. He worked as an accounts officer at BRAC’s Joypasha branch under Parameshwardi union in Boalmari.

He lived in a rented room at the house of Swapan Kumar Saha, a professor at Shah Zafar Technical College in Moyendia Bazar.

According to police and local sources, Olive’s roommate, Amarendra Mondal, had gone home on Friday for his weekly holiday.

When Amarendra returned at around 8am on Saturday, he found the room’s doors and windows closed. After repeated phone calls to Olive went unanswered, he called neighbours for help.

They broke open the door and found Olive hanging from a ceiling fan.

Police later recovered the body and prepared an inquest report.

Saidur Rahman, investigation officer at Boalmari Police Station, said the body had been taken to the police station and would be sent to the morgue at Faridpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

He said the incident appeared to be a suicide initially.
