Police recovered the hanging body of a 65-year-old auto-rickshaw driver in Dhaka’s Dohar upazila on Tuesday, four days after he went missing.
The body of Jalal was found hanging from the railing of the Lotakhola New Market Bridge on Tuesday morning. Dohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abu Bakr Siddique confirmed the incident.
Jalal, a native of Munshiganj, had been living in a rented house in the Char Lotakhola area of Dohar for a long time. He worked as an auto-rickshaw driver.
According to family members and locals, Jalal left home four days ago and did not return. His relatives searched for him in several places but could not locate him.
On Tuesday morning, locals spotted his body hanging from the bridge railing and informed police. Police later recovered the body with assistance from the Fire Service.
OC Abu Bakr Siddique said the body would be sent to Dhaka for an autopsy.
“It cannot be determined yet whether this was a murder or suicide. The cause of death will be clear after the autopsy and investigation,” he said.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Jalal’s death and whether anyone else was involved. The recovery of the body has caused concern in the local community.
