Army deployed in Ctg for flood response

The Bangladesh Army has been deployed in Chattogram under “In Aid to Civil Power” to support the civil administration in tackling the flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and hill runoff.

The deployment was made following an emergency request from the Chattogram district administration, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday night.

According to the ISPR, troops from the 10th Infantry Division and the 24th Infantry Division have been carrying out search, rescue and relief operations in several flood-hit upazilas.

Days of heavy rain and hill runoff have severely inundated Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish and Banshkhali, leaving around 400,000 people stranded and badly affected.

In response, the 10th Infantry Division has deployed rescue teams along with the necessary equipment to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, Boalkhali, Hathazari and Fatikchhari have also been hit hard by flooding caused by persistent monsoon rains. Troops from the 24th Infantry Division have been deployed there to conduct emergency rescue and relief operations.

The army is continuing search and rescue (SAR) missions to evacuate stranded residents. To ensure swift and coordinated operations, the 24th Infantry Division has established three camps in the flood-affected areas.

The Bangladesh Army said it remains committed to working alongside the civil administration during natural disasters and will continue its operations until the situation returns to normal.
