Police have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of involvement in the murder of journalist Lutfozzaman Fakir Alif in Durgapur, Netrokona.
Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khandakar Shaker Ahmed said the suspect, identified as Apurbo, was arrested near the old cinema hall in Durgapur municipal town shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Apurbo is a resident of Ukilpara in Durgapur. He is also an accused in the murder case of police Sub-Inspector Shafiqul.
The OC said police arrested him through a drive based on secret information and technological assistance. Initial questioning yielded several important pieces of information related to Alif’s murder, he added.
Alif was shot dead at around 7:30pm on Thursday in front of a shop near his father-in-law’s house in Telunjia village, in the Birishiri-Utrail area of Durgapur upazila. He sustained six gunshot wounds.
Alif’s wife, Anondita Sangma, filed a murder case with Durgapur Police Station, naming eight unidentified people as accused.
A joint team comprising the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Detective Branch (DB) is investigating the case.
