The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has cancelled the registration of Ticket Kingdom, a travel agency based in Green Road, Dhaka, over allegations of taking money from Hajj pilgrims for air tickets but failing to deliver them within the stipulated time.
The ministry cancelled the agency’s registration through a recent order.
According to the order signed by Naila Ahmed of the ministry, owners and representatives of several travel agencies raised allegations against Ticket Kingdom proprietor Umair Karim Ifti at a press conference held at the National Press Club on May 5. Following the complaints, the registration authority scheduled a hearing for May 13, but neither the proprietor nor any representative of the agency attended.
The order also cited information from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which conducted an enforcement operation over alleged fraud involving Ticket Kingdom. The investigation team subsequently submitted a report to the commission.
According to the ministry’s order, a review of the report found that the agency had collected money from customers on the promise of providing air tickets to Hajj pilgrims but failed to issue the tickets within the agreed timeframe. The investigation team also raised concerns over the alleged misappropriation of the money and the acquisition of illegal assets.
The ACC had also requested a review of the agency’s registration.
Ticket Kingdom’s registration certificate was valid from April 17, 2024, to April 16, 2027. However, the ministry cancelled it before its expiry, citing violations of relevant provisions of the Bangladesh Travel Agency (Registration and Control) Act, 2013, and the code of conduct under the Bangladesh Travel Agency (Registration and Control) Rules, 2022.
