Liberation War Affairs State Minister Ishraque Hossain will make a final announcement regarding his resignation at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka at 2pm today.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday (October 19), Ishraque said he would face journalists and make his final announcement on the matter.

“I will make the final announcement regarding my resignation from the post of State Minister for Liberation War Affairs at 2pm today at the National Press Club and face journalists, InshaAllah,” he wrote.

The announcement comes amid reports that Ishraque had been instructed to resign from the cabinet.

The reports circulated in the media on Sunday evening, prompting speculation about his position in the government.

Ishraque, however, dismissed the reports as rumours and protested the publication of news suggesting that he had been directed to step down.

His scheduled press conference is expected to clarify his position on the reports and his future as state minister.

Earlier, several media outlets reported, citing multiple high-level government sources, that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had instructed Ishraque to resign following a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.

However, no official government confirmation was available at the time.

The reports came amid controversy over Ishraque’s participation in an anti-narcotics drive in Dhaka’s Gendaria area on Saturday.

Videos circulating on social media showed him holding a firearm during the operation, prompting questions about the legality of his actions.

In the rebuttal, his office maintained that the firearm had been displayed lawfully in self-defence and said Ishraque had already clarified his position on the incident.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has assigned the deputy commissioner of its Wari division to investigate whether any laws were violated during the operation.

Police have said legal action would be taken if violations are established.
