JHENAIDAH: Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said that no one is above the law while commenting on Liberation War Affairs State Minister Ishraq Hossain’s operation at a suspected drug den while carrying a firearm.
“If anyone acts against the prime minister’s specific directives, he will make the right decision. He has already demonstrated this,” the law minister said.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after inaugurating a new building at the Jhenaidah District Primary Teachers Training Institute on Monday morning (October 19).
Regarding the participation of teachers working at MPO-listed institutions and other employees in local government elections, the minister said there was currently no legal bar to their participation and no alternative arrangement had been introduced.
“They can participate in the elections until a solution is reached through the legal process. The law remains unchanged,” he said.
The minister expressed hope that local government elections would bring positive changes, adding that the government’s performance in the elections would demonstrate this.
Responding to allegations by Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists of irregularities in the appointment of fertiliser dealers, Asaduzzaman said opposition parties needed to raise various issues to pursue their politics.
“They are opposing different issues simply for the sake of opposition. These are their claims, which the government does not believe,” he said.
The minister maintained that all legal procedures had been followed in appointing fertiliser dealers.
The prime minister’s political assistant Rashed Khan, Deputy Commissioner Noman Hossain, Superintendent of Police Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan and District Council Administrator MA Majid, among others, were present at the event.
