Police recovered the headless body of a van driver in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga on Monday, five days after he went missing.

The body of Chan Mia, also known as Chand Ali, was recovered around 9:30am beside the Kotchandpur road near Shahapur Police Camp in the upazila.

Chand Ali, son of the late Jonab Ali, was a resident of Baligartpara in Hashadah village.

According to locals, he left home with his van on October 15 and never returned. His family searched various places but failed to locate him.

On Monday morning, passers-by spotted a mutilated, headless body beside the road near the police camp and informed police. Officers from Jibannagar Police Station later recovered the body.

The victim’s relatives identified him by his clothing and other evidence.

It is suspected that miscreants killed him after snatching his van and dumped his body in an isolated place.

Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Solaiman Sheikh said police recovered the body after receiving information. The initial evidence suggested that it was a planned murder, he added.

The body was sent to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway, the OC said.
