At least 187 people were killed in 398 incidents of mob violence and lynching across Bangladesh in the first nine months of 2026, while 73 others died in political violence, according to a human rights organisation.
More than 6,473 people were injured in 1,013 incidents of political violence between January and September, the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) said in its human rights monitoring report released on Monday (October 19).
The report also recorded 95 deaths among prisoners in jails and 12 deaths in incidents involving law enforcement custody or alleged torture.
Election-related violence claimed 13 lives during the period, according to the report.
HRSS said the incidents involved political disputes, turf wars and election-related clashes, alongside mob violence, alleged extrajudicial killings and deaths in prisons, raising concerns about the country’s human rights situation.
The report was compiled using news published in 16 national dailies, the organisation’s own data collection and fact-finding reports.
