Bangladesh and Japan have finalised plans to sign at least four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming four-day official visit to Japan, while preparations are underway to sign a total of eight agreements.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam confirmed the development during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, October 20.

The prime minister will visit Japan from October 26 to 29. He is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart on the second day of the visit, October 27.

The two sides are expected to sign MoUs aimed at expanding trade and economic cooperation following the high-level bilateral meeting at the Japanese prime minister’s office.

The Japanese prime minister will host a luncheon in honour of Tarique Rahman after the meeting.

The Bangladesh prime minister is also expected to hold courtesy calls and meetings with the Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League, the chairman of the Japan-Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Cooperation, the president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the president of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and the chairman of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

Tarique Rahman will deliver the keynote address at the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Forum, which is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral trade, investment and economic ties.
