Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the Durga Puja mandap at JM Sen Hall in Chattogram on Tuesday evening, exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
The visit marked the first time a sitting head of government visited a Durga Puja mandap in Chattogram since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971.
The prime minister travelled to the venue in Rahmatganj after arriving at Shah Amanat International Airport following visits to Rangpur and Rajshahi.
During the visit, he exchanged greetings with devotees and Hindu community leaders and was scheduled to provide financial assistance to the organisers.
The visit was expected to reinforce communal harmony, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among people of different faiths.
JM Sen Hall is one of Chattogram’s oldest and most prominent venues for Durga Puja celebrations, attracting devotees from across the country.
The prime minister was also scheduled to attend an organisational meeting with local BNP leaders at the Radisson Blu hotel before returning to Dhaka.
