Jamaat-e-Islami is set to launch a long march from the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka on October 31, with an opening rally scheduled at the mosque premises.

The programme is part of the party’s planned political activities. Further details, including the march’s route, demands and participation, should be attributed to the party’s official announcement.

The long march will travel through several districts, including Shariatpur, Madaripur, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Bagerhat, Khulna, Jashore and Jhenaidah, before concluding with a rally at Kushtia Zila School ground.

Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar chaired a preparatory meeting at the party’s central office in Moghbazar on Wednesday to review arrangements for the programme. Jamaat Ameer and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to address the opening rally, alongside other leaders of the 11-party alliance.

The organisers said the march would begin with a rally at 7am and depart at 8am with a convoy of around 1,000 vehicles. Several roadside rallies are also planned along the route.

The alliance has announced seven demands, including implementation of the referendum verdict, trial for the July massacre, resolving shortages of electricity, fuel, gas and fertiliser, controlling the prices of essential commodities, improving law and order, curbing corruption, extortion and land grabbing, and ending partisan control across the administration.
